Wellbeing

Christ Church CE Academy is dedicated to supporting the social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of all our children and their families. We are a very nurturing school and our OFSTED report (October 2016)  recognises this: 'The school’s work to promote pupils’ personal development and welfare is outstanding.'

Our curriculum encourages children  to develop self-esteem and self-confidence, improve social skills, develop language and communication skills and improve motivation and concentration. We take pride in the work we do to support the social and emotional development of pupils.

Regular staff training gives us a framework for understanding what healthy child development looks like in terms of behaviour and learning and clarifies what the role of adults should be in facilitating a child’s development at each of the different stages. In addition, the model gives us a lens through which to look at and interpret children’s behaviour, enabling us to identify the particular developmental needs being signalled by their behaviour and to choose appropriate, targeted interventions designed to meet those needs.

Our Inclusion and Family Support Worker is Mrs Connor.  Mrs Connor delivers a number of intervention programmes that support pupil wellbeing on a 1:1 basis or small group.  Activities are carefully planned to allow pupils to develop their social communication skills and skills of social interaction and co-operation.  Each child in school is ‘screened’ to ensure every child has the opportunity for further support to help their developmental well-being.

Mrs Connor provides support, advice and information to families in our school community. She can help with any worries or questions you may have in relation to your child's behaviour, development and wellbeing.
Mrs Connor can be contacted directly by phone or e-mail during school hours.
