Choir

Christ Church CE Academy has a history of wonderful whole school singing, gaining a ‘Platinum’ singing award from ‘Sing Up’ in 2011 and being involved in outreach to others since then.

Under the musical direction of Miss Gillian Hamer, our choir forms an important part of worship; leading singing during community worship both in school and at church.

An allocation of time was found on the timetable to start the choir in January 2009 and since then the membership has grown in popularity, rising to 60+ members.

During the last three years the choir has been invited to perform at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and at Cummins Diamond Jubilee celebrations, in addition to the opening of the Academy and appearances within the community of Deighton and Woodhouse Hill.  Experiences of the older members of the choir engender enthusiasm among the youngest.

Out in the community

Our choir regularly entertains the elderly residents at Abbey Place Care Home.  Their beautiful singing not only lights up the faces of the residents; but the conversation and interaction between young and old afterwards demonstrates the value of our links with, and service to, our local community.
